Toilet Twinning
1st Crawley Scouts have funded families in eight different countries to build their own basic toilet, access clean water and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that saves lives.
It all started last year when our young people were learning about life in underdeveloped countries and the importance of basic hygiene facilities. We found out about Toilet Twinning and thought we could see how many toilets we could twin.
We organised a 10 mile sponsored walk over the Seven Sisters and raised just under £500. At £60 per toilet this meant we could help build toilets in eight different countries!
It’s taken us a while to get the certificates installed, but we’ve now put up five at Stanford Scout Camp Site and three at our own hut on Oak Road. See if you can find out which different countries we supported!
